Food Waste Recycling
Our commercial food waste recycling program was implemented in 1999 with Orange County Solid Waste as our first customer. What started as an experimental program filled with trial and error has turned into a growing model system for other areas of the country.
We now service nearly 140 locations in Chatham, Cumberland, Durham, Guilford, Orange, and Wake counties.
How it works
We collect organics in either 8-yd dumpsters or 64-gallon wheeled containers, depending on the available dock space and volume of waste. The customer fills the container as needed, and our trucks collect the waste at a minimum of once per week, depending on the customer's needs. All pre and post-consumer food waste is accepted. Contamination in the form of plastics, glass, styrofoam, metals and foils is unacceptable. After the container is tipped, it is rinsed with high pressure/hot water, degreaser/deodorizer to keep the container as clean as possible, however we DO NOT SANITIZE THE CONTAINER.
The program is only offered in limited areas of central North Carolina. Please call or e-mail us for more information about this service.
